Escape Into Elsewhere is a mixed-media exhibition by artist Sarah Hart of Hart Print Shop. Through a fusion of printing, painting, and layered materials, this Klauer Campus exhibition blurs the boundaries between the real and the imagined. Drawing inspiration from the whimsical world that fueled her imagination, Sarah explores the restorative power of creative play. Her work offers a gentle reprieve from the weight of the everyday—a reminder that imagination itself can be a form of freedom. “In escape, I find restoration. In restoration, power.”

An invited artist from the Taos community, Sarah is also a graphic designer, printmaker, and curator. Her work will be featured in UNM-Taos’ first Atrium Gallery show under new Fine Arts Department Chair Jaime Knight’s tenure. The opening is from 3-6 p.m. on November 6. The show runs from November 3 to November 28. The Atrium Gallery is located in Fred Peralta Hall on the Klauer Campus, County Road 110, Ranchos de Taos.

In an age of instant gratification, she finds deep satisfaction in slowing down and immersing herself in the creative process. Screen printing allows her to dissect and reassemble her drawings, transforming them into something entirely new. It stretches the creative act beyond a single image—into an evolving dialogue between precision, patience, and play.

Sarah’s work explores the balance between the technical rigor of printmaking and the unfiltered imagination that makes her art feel approachable and sincere.

Taos offered her an unconventional beginning: creating event posters. These works blend information with imagery, turning everyday communication into small, meaningful encounters. Through them, she formed lasting connections with bands, venues, theater groups, schools, and nonprofits—relationships that underscored the importance of community within her artistic practice.

As co-owner of Ennui Gallery, Sarah was able to deepen her exploration of screen printing while returning to her roots as an illustrator and painter. Her current work with the Taos Center for the Arts continues to build spaces where art, collaboration, and experimentation thrive.
